Don’t catastrophize. Be generous to yourself and others. Misunderstandings happen, and it’s easy to assume people “just don’t get it.” Often, though, the misunderstanding is shared—because we fail to ask simple questions like: “What are your interests?” or “What do you need help with?”  

Before beginning any collaborative endeavor, listen. Hold your thoughts until the other person has fully expressed theirs. This simple act of listening is one of the biggest steps toward understanding and, ultimately, a much more fulfilling collaboration.
